Terrance "Terry" Michael Stenson

Terry Stenson faded away peacefully Friday February 27th at 5:15 in Arroyo Grande surrounded by family. Terry's brave experience with quadriplegia ended after more than 12 years of courage.
Terry was born February 17, 1967 in Santa Barbara CA. to Laurie Nelson of Hibbing, Minnesota and Michael Stenson of Santa Barbara, CA. Terry grew up in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, and finally Nipomo with his parents and siblings. He attended Arroyo Grande High School, graduating in 1985. Those who know him will remember his many proud moments playing Eagle basketball and football. Terry was a graduate of the Cal Poly SLO Ornamental Horticulture program, and went on to manage landscape design at both the Wilshire Country Club in Beverly Hills and Disneyland. Terry's marriage to Renee Guerra resulted in the birth of his only daughter Chelsea Taylor Stenson and his precious relationship with stepson Travis Sarty. Terry's life changed forever June 2nd, 2006 when a diving accident at the beach left him paralyzed.
Terry was an inspiration to all around him for his courage and strength after his accident. Terry moved on to lead a wonderfully productive life with landscape design and maintenance, coaching Nipomo Titans basketball, parenting and making people laugh. Terry and Chelsea spent many great years in Shell Beach basking in the sun and wheeling around the neighborhood. Terry found love again and spent 7 years with wife Karen Jones of Nipomo.
Terry is survived by his wife Karen Jones of Nipomo, his daughter Chelsea 17 of Nipomo and stepson Travis Sarty of Orange County CA., and his step daughters Hailey and Jailynne Jones of Nipomo. Terry spent his final days on the family property in Arroyo Grande with his parents Mike and Laurie Stenson, his brother Andy Stenson, sister in law Chrissy, nephew and niece Ben and Grace, his sister Wendy Stenson-Martinez, brother in law Jesse Martinez, and nephews Clayton and Cooper. Terry is also survived by his grandmother Audrey Nelson of San Luis Obispo, countless relatives and friends and his beloved labrador Gus.
A memorial of Terry's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday March 7th at The Clark Center for the Performing Arts followed by a celebration at the family property at 912 Hischier Lane, Arroyo Grande, Ca. 805-474-9449
Arrangements are under the direction of Marshall~Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel, Grover Beach, Ca.

Terry was a great guy. We had some fun times playing hoops at AGHS, but the best memories were off the court. We kept in touch and I was shocked to hear that he was gone. Very sad. He will be missed. RIP Terry

Terry was a good guy, I knew him a little through his brother Andy. The times i saw him after his accident he was always in a happy way. So to Andy and the rest of the Stensons, I am much sorry for your loss.

Wow, I've been looking for Terry for years and this is what I finally find. My God I wish I could have been there for ya buddy. Your a true friend and father. I remember working at Wilshire CC with you and the spending weekends with you and Andy in Long Beach watching Indy. And I'll never forget snooping through Disneyland when they were closed. I saw you last at your parents house on the coast.....I so wish I could have got back in touch with you sooner.....Rest in Peace my friend.....you'll never be forgotten
