Shirley June Looney Spendlove
Shirley June Looney Spendlove, 70, of Nipomo, was granted her angel wings Thursday, May 9, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. At the young age of 19, Shirley married Charles Looney and embraced a ready-made family of five children. Shirley had a 15-year career at Kmart. She later married Paul Spendlove and they enjoyed many years at their ranch in Arroyo Grande. They owned and operated Grover Tool until they retired and moved to Nipomo. Once there, they enjoyed trips to Chumash Casino and time with friends. Shirley enjoyed movie night with her son, David, and her sister, Linda. She treated everyone in her life like family and was always there to listen. Her hobbies included gardening (she especially loved succulents), crocheting and reading, but most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Her infectious laugh, which turned into a snort, will be sorely missed. Her smile lit up everyone around her. Shirley is survived by her special boy, grandson Jeremiah Spendlove; sister, Linda Rodrigues of Oceano; and brothers Dennis Swisher (Laurel) of Denair, Calif.; and Robert Longest of Shawnee, Okla. She was also survived by her sons David Perry of Nipomo; Charlie Looney (Nora) of Arroyo Grande; and Don Looney (Lori) of Visalia, Calif,; daughters Shirley Dostal of Nipomo; Patty Branch of El Mirage, Ariz.; Donna Lonzi (Steve) of Palmdale, Calif.; Mindy Brown (Mike) of Simpsonville, S.C.; and Deanna Weidler (Jason) of Arroyo Grande; 22 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Looney; second husband, Paul Spendlove in 2007; and brothers Richard and Harold Swisher. A celebration of life will start promptly at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, at the home of Deanna Weidler, with lunch to follow. For details, email: [email protected].
