Ryan McDonald Nash, 24, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at home, surrounded by his family. Ryan was born and raised in Arroyo Grande and attended local elementary, middle and high schools, having graduated from Arroyo Grande High School in 2006. He went on to earn his BA from UCSB in Business Economics in three years. He was so proud t0 have started working in the accounting department of a health clinic in Los Angeles. Ryan had a rare and sarcastic sense of humor, and from an early age, was always ready to debate anything with anyone. His unique personality was his strongest asset, which led to many fun conversations. Growing up, Ryan participated in basketball, baseball, roller hockey, club soccer and drama, and then played four years of high school varsity golf. His keen intellect also led him to enjoy poker. As soon as he turned 18 years old, he became a regular at the Chumash Casino. In college, he wrote short stories and dreamed of publishing a book of his college adventures. Ryan is survived by his parents, Bill and Terry Nash; brothers Matthew and Tyler Nash; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members. As Ryan was a believer in science, he donated his body to UCLA for research. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March, 18, 2012, at the Cypress Ridge Pavilion, 1050 Cypress Ridge Pkwy. in Arroyo Grande.
