I played Babe Ruth league baseball against him, and the coach always feared him.

I remember when he died - I kept thinking that I had to make sure that we were the ones who told you. Julie and I drove up to your house and you were outside with Jari Sue. Gosh, I wonder why I remember that in detail. He was a good guy (not even a bratty brother haha) - and I'm glad that you guys were friends.

yeah that was a very crazy time I lost my dad the year before. and I loved your brother like my own brother even though we were so different and raised so different we had a wonderful kinship, we talked and had this easyness with each other, without the spark (lol) we went on a date once, awkward:) he was in love with Dierdre(sp?). and we made really good friends!!

Ray was there for me when Jimmy died, everyday for months, telling me I would get through each day, that we had to lean on each other. He and Jimmy had become close friends after graduation. Ray, Dedra, Jimmy and I spent a lot of time together. I remember being the one to tell Ray the night Jimmy died that he didn't need to get fitted for his tuxedo for our wedding, Ray thought Jimmy and I broke up. That night changed my whole life. Ray and I were both so wicked sad out of our minds in grief after Jimmy's death. I couldn't believe it when I heard the news of Ray's passing, my heart was ripped from my chest. I was still grieving over Jimmy's death, don't know how I made it through life and where I am today. Guess God has a way of carrying you through those times. Dedra, wherever you are, I hope you have created a happy life for yourself. We both know Ray wouldn't tolerate anything less. He loved you so much, you were his light. I'm happy that I was able to be in your wedding and share such a special moment between the two of you. Ray, I'll always love and miss you my friend!

Wow. I'm looking up on Facebook the names of every single person I've ever met in my entire life (I'm 45 presently) and Ray Matrullo was my good friend in the early-mid '70s, when he lived on Stansbury in Foxenwoods, in Orcutt. He and I caught frogs and tadpoles in the big puddles of standing water back behind his house, back before Foxenwoods was developed to that point. It was still towering eucalyptus trees then, and big deep puddles of muddy water full of frogs. He moved away in the mid 70s. We were 8 or 9 then. The pictures I have of him are from class pictures, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade in May Grisham, and he was a smaller version of the pictures at the top of this webpage :)
