NANCIE HAJEK
1935 - 2007
Nancie Louise (Turner-David) Hajek passed away suddenly in Santa Paula, while on a camping trip with her husband, Chuck, Friday August 24, 2007.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Hajek, Santa Maria, her daughter Lynn and husband Tony Ventura, Santa Maria, her daughter Tamara Turner, Arroyo Grande, her son Bill Turner, San Diego, her son John and wife Irene Turner, Cedar Hills Utah, and her son Terry and wife Mary Turner, Henderson Nevada.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Brian Ventura, Jayson and Justin Turner, Carey, Kenny and wife Erika, David, Steven and Kelsea Turner, Katie and husband Mel Best, Tina and TJ, Jessica and Justin Turner, her great grandchildren Jakob, Haylie, Andrew, Xander, Caydance and Kaiyou.
She is also survived by her brother Nels and wife Elaine Petersen of Fort Jones, CA, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, first husband Bill Turner, second husband John David, and her brother Bill Petersen.
Nancie was born in Santa Monica in 1935, attended local schools, and graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1952. She graduated from AHC with her degree in Early Childhood Studies and started on her long journey of teaching pre-school children. She started the 1st Headstart Program in Guadalupe, and ended her career with the Nipomo State Preschool in Nipomo Ca. Nancie retired from 35 years of teaching in 1998.
Nancie was also Founder and Director of the Santa Maria Batonettes and Drum Corps which was formed in 1962. She was a USTA certified baton instructor and taught baton twirling for over 20 years to many young women of the Central Coast. The Batonettes traveled up and down the state of California successfully competing in many parades and twirling contests.
Nancie was also a recognized High School level Gymnastics Judge for several years, and judged as Head Judge at many of the local gymnastics meets for the Central Coast.
Nancie announced many of the Gymkhanas and Horse Shows for both the Orcutt Riders Club and the Santa Maria Valley Roping and Riding Club. Nancie was also the Choir Director for Job's Daughters.
Nancie was also involved with the Elk's Rodeo Parade. She had the honor of being in charge of the Judges for the Parade, and would always make sure that there were Judges for the parade.
After Nancie retired, she enjoyed many things. She loved her grand and great grand children, doing crafts, and riding her horses. The most recent thing that Nancie and Chuck were doing was camping with their Casita trailer, and traveling around the United States. They were members of a camping group called The Escapees, and would go on camping rallies with the many new friends that they had made while camping.
Nancie was a member of Job's Daughters, Santa Maria Valley Roping and Riding Club, AQHA, and the California Retired Teachers Association.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, August 31, 2007 at Dudley Hoffman. Reception will follow with location to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Salvation Army, Tamara Turner Relief Fund c/o Community Bank of Santa Maria, or to the Montel Williams MS Foundation.
