First day of my Senior year, Sept., 1981, first period, Mr. Anthony's Astronomy class, I stroll in, 5 minutes late, lookin' all COOL!, everyone looking at the "Big Senior Baseball Player" casually taking his seat, naturally in the far back corner of the room. No sooner do I remove my shades (and slowly place them gently on the table in front of me, everyone still watching), than this dumpy little pimply faced FRESHMAN! ambles in and takes the seat RIGHT NEXT TO ME! "What the F... is this?" I say to myself, as I try to continue to look cool to the rest of the class. Well,I knew I was stuck with this guy for the rest of the semester, so the only thing I could do to keep up my "image" was to pick on this kid as hard as I could every day, just to keep up appearances. One time he got up to sharpen his pencil, and when he came back to the table, just as he was about to sit back down, I pulled his chair out from under him, and he fell flat on his ass! Everyone in the room laughed their asses off! My "image" was safe. Or so I thought. The next day, THE VERY NEXT FU..... DAY! I get up to hand in my homework, and when I come back to the table to sit down, he pulls my chair out from under me, this little PIMPLY FACED, DUMPY LITTLE FRESHMAN! makes me fall flat on MY ASS! in front of the whole class! Everyone in the room laughed their asses off, again. Only this time even harder. That's when I said to myself, "This little kid's got some balls!" We spent the rest of the semester joking around and giving each other a hard time, and the fact that he was a dumpy little freshman and I was a cool senior athlete didn't seem to matter much anymore. Even though I never saw or talked to him again after Astronomy class, I've always considered him my friend. Later, Peb.

Pubs (Michael) was my neighbor growing up on the mesa. We played together as kids and rode the same bus to school from first grade until we could drive ourselves. Towards the end of his life he and his wife moved into my youngest sister and her husband house in Oceano. RIP Michael. Thanks for all the childhood memories playing star wars and having dirt clod fights.

Michael was my husband's childhood best friend and after Darrin and I were married, he became my best friend. I don't think he had a mean bone in his body! He would always see the best in every person. He became our oldest sons godfather and our youngest sons namesake. I miss him terribly and think of him often. Darrin says he is waiting for him in heaven, and when he gets there, Michael will be holding the gates shut! He had recommitted his life to Christ a few months before he passed away. We love you Mikey and we will see you again my dear friend!
