Michael J. Smith, 52, of Santa Maria passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at his home.
Michael was born of Chumash descent on June 13, 1960 to Bernard and Jeannie Smith in Lakewood, California. Shortly thereafter, his family relocated to Grover City, now Grover Beach. Michael attended Grover City Elementary School and went on to attend St. Patrick's Catholic School upon its opening. His family moved to Norwalk for a few years before returning to the Central Coast, making Santa Maria their home in 1977. Michael graduated from Righetti High School and has called Santa Maria his home ever since.
Michael is survived by his sisters, Shirley A. Smith and Linda E. Smith both of Santa Maria; brother, James B. Smith of Santa Maria; aunts, Gloria Trett, Goldie Borelli and Dottie Huber; as well as numerous cousins.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents and aunt, Pearl Oldfield.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 30, 2012; followed by the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Magner-Maloney Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at the Arroyo Grande Cemetery.

I knew Mike from many years ago. I often thought about him through the years and was so sorry to hear of his passing. He was a gentle spirit, genuine, and highly intelligent; a quiet intelligence. He is one of Gods really good ones! I truly hope he found eternal love and peace in his passing.
