Maxsie (Max) Alfred Bakke, Jr.

Maxsie (Max) Alfred Bakke, Jr., 67, native of San Luis Obispo County, passed away quietly in his home on January 23, 2010. Born to Maxsie Alfred Bakke and Ora Belle Bakke, at San Luis Obispo General Hospital. Max is survived by his long time partner in life Donna Evenson; sisters Midge Petker of Arroyo Grande, Shirley Zeyen of Utah, brother Vernon Bakke of Bakersfield; many nieces and nephews and his devoted dog Annie. He was preceded in death by both his parents and one sister, Barbara Wilhoit. Max graduated from Arroyo Grande High School in 1960 and continued to attend all the football, volleyball and basketball games. Max was a charter member of the Oceano/Five Cities Elks Lodge and an outstanding member of the NRA, California Law Enforcement Historical Society and life time member of the South County Historical Society. Max retired from PG&E after more than 40 years of service. He will be missed by all who knew him, especially at the Village Café in Arroyo Grande. Visitation was held on Saturday, January 30th at Reis Family Mortuary. There was also a memorial and reception on Saturday, January 30th at the Oceano/Five Cities Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local charity of your choice. You never knew what he was thinking, but he'd sure think up a good story!
