16th Annual Fun Run
June 7, 2009 at Talley Vineyards.

Marianne Talley was born August 10, 1967. She began participating in competitive swimming at age 8, and was active on the cross-country and swim teams at Arroyo Grande High School. After graduating in 1985, she attended the University of Southern California where she competed on the swim team and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science in 1989. Marianne attended Cal Poly where she earned a Master's Degree in Wellness Management in 1993. She owned and operated her own business as a fitness consultant and personal trainer.

Marianne was an avid athlete who competed in swimming, running, cycling, and triathlon events most of her life. She was a member of the SLO Roadrunners Running and Triathlon Club, and completed the Ironman Triathlon in 1992. She died suddenly on May 18, 1993, from complications associated with heart arrhythmia. Many of Marianne's teammates volunteer their time for this Memorial Fun Run, and are dedicated to keeping Marianne's ideals alive.

The Marianne Talley Foundation is a nonprofit organization that was established in 1993 to fund scholarships for college-bound athletes from Arroyo Grande High School. The Fun Run was established as an annual fund-raising event in 1994. The run is dedicated to honoring Marianne's memory and to her commitment to health, fitness and exercise.

What happened to Marianne? I remember she was a swimmer and had that really cool shiny hair!

I went to school with her brother, Brian (Ocean View and AGHS), and knew her in high school. I remember seeing her name in the paperwork when I was a paramedic, and felt sad for her family.

Shannon- Thanks for putting this group together. I check this group everyday to look for new post and photos. You must get a ton of notifications. I've noticed this group growing larger and larger each day.
Sonin- I met Marianne in 6th grade camp. I ran cross-county with her in HS. I have some good memories of her in Paulding and AGHS. I remember ... Read Morewhen she passed away because she died about the same time my mother passed. Marianne rests only a few away from my mother in the Arroyo Grande Cemetery. I say "hi" to her sometimes when I visit my mom. :(

I went to school with Maryanne since the third grade. I swam on the 5 cities swim team with her as well. She was an awsome swimmer and a super, super sweet girl. I think about her from time to time. My favorite memory of Maryanne was playing "Truth or Dare" outside of Mr Quides 6th grade class with Carol Zorn, Shelly Cabassi, Enrico, Jimmy Kirk and Steve Angelo. I'll never forget those days growing up. a lot of good memories....RIP Maryanne.

I got to know Marianne better after high school, and whenever I have zucchini with garlic powder, I always think of her.

Truly a *nice* person.

I first met Marianne as a younger club swimmer, and later shared the deck and pool with her as high school athletes from rival schools. Marianne was very fast, but never above anyone. She was very kind, loving, and quick with a smile, except during her ultra-focused pre-race prep. She taught me what focus looked like.
