Joseph John Cabassi, 50, was
born in San Luis Obispo, and resided in Arroyo Grande until he made his home in
Santa Maria in 2002. He resided there until he died peacefully Sunday,
Jan. 19, 2014, at home, with family at his side. Joey attended Arroyo
Grande High School and graduated in 1982. He then attended Cuesta College
for two years and transferred to Cal Poly, where he graduated with a degree in
Ag Business. In 1991, Joey began a successful career at E.C. Loomis and
Son Insurance in Arroyo Grande as an insurance broker. He was involved
with many clubs and organizations, including Kiwanis Club of Greater Pismo
Beach, where he was voted Kiwanian of the Year in 2007-2008. In addition,
Joey was a member of the Fire Safe Council of SLO County, SLO County Range
Improvement Association and the Arroyo Grande High School FFA. Joey was a
true humanitarian who spent his life and weekends helping others. He was
known throughout the community as a master BBQ'er for numerous fundraisers and
charities, and worked tirelessly to improve the world around him. Joey is
survived by his father, Charlie; mother, Sandra; brother, Mike; sisters Carol
and Shelly; brother-in-laws Curt and Brian; niece, Jessica; nephews Darrell,
Charlie and James; and great niece Alyssa. Viewing will be from 4 to
7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel, 1239
Longbranch in Grover Beach. A graveside ceremony will take place at 11
a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at the Arroyo Grande Cemetery, with a Celebration
of Life to follow at the Loomis Barn, 8451 Huasna Road in Arroyo Grande.
In lieu of flowers, Joey wished that donations would be made in his memory to
the Cuesta College Foundation, P.O. Box 8106, San Luis Obispo, CA 93403; and
the AGHS FFA, Dept. 495 Valley Road, Arroyo Grande, CA 93420. Marshall-Spoo
