James Michael "Jimmy" Carter Sr., of Nipomo, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2005.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2005, at St. John/s Lutheran Church in Arroyo Grande.
A native of San Luis Obispo, James was born Feb 8, 1947, and resided in San Luis Obispo County for 41 years and Santa Barbara County for 17 years. He worked in construction and highway maintenance. He attended St. John/s Lutheran Church.
James loved riding horses, boating and his grandchildren. He also loved driving his jeep and was a member of the 4-Wheel Drive Club of Santa Maria. He enjoyed life and talking to people.
James is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol Carter; daughters, Laurie Wyant, of Lebanon, Ore., and Debra Carter, of Lompoc; son, James Carter Jr., of Carpinteria; grandchildren, Rose Ann Wyant, of Lebanon, Ore., Cameron James Michael Carter and Robert Mathew Carter, both of Santa Maria; and brother, Johny Carter, of Bakersfield.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Carter; mother, Pearl Brown; grandson, Casey Lee Wyant on Oct 25, 1995; and brother, Allen DeWayne Carter.
Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to the James Carter Memorial Fund at Coast Hills Credit Union.
Arrangements are under the direction of Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel in Grover Beach, 489-5552.
