Please Feel Free To Leave A Comment Or A Memory You Had With Jack~
Jack Derry Barker passed away due to cardiac arrest in his Orcutt home on Tuesday, September 30th 2014. He was 64 years old. Jack was born and raised in Grover City, he graduated from Arroyo Grande High school, earned his Associates degree at Cuesta College and was pursuing a higher degree at California Polytechnic University when he was drafted by the US Army and called to serve abroad in the Vietnam war. He returned home in 1973 and after just 3 months, met the woman he would later marry. He and Linda were wed in 1978 and started their family.
Jack was a devoted husband, and a hardworking, loving father of 4 children: daughters Melinda, Erin and Sherry and his son Jack Roy. He was fiercely patriotic, loved God and his family and enjoyed hunting, fishing and motorcycles. He had a true hunger for knowledge and spent endless hours reading on topics ranging from physics and engineering to religion, health, and science fiction. He was incredibly handy and could build, fix or improve anything. Jack loved music and played piano, guitar, accordion, and the harmonica.
He leaves behind his wife of almost 36 years, Linda (Foster) Barker, their daughter Melinda Thompson & her husband Sean, daughter Erin Hamman & her husband Darin, daughter Sherry Lockhart & her husband Jason, and son Jack R. Barker & his wife Angela as well as 6 adoring grandchildren, River, Nixie, Connor, Delilah, Declan & Finley. He is also survived by his brother, Ralph Barker.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 11th at 11am at the Marshall Spoo Sunset chapel in Grover Beach. His family welcomes any who wish to attend or share a fond memory.
