John Joseph Barlogio, Sr. born December 27, 1943, in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Hospital, Santa Maria, Ca. the son of Florenzo Barlogio and Lucretia Victorino Barlogio departed on September 24, 2012, Santa Maria, California. John graduated from Santa Maria High School, entered the United States Army September 1961, serving 3 years until being Honorably discharged having received the Good Conduct Medalist Award, Marksman Badge Rifle and Sharpshooter Badge. Carbine, June 1964. During his enlistment he was a Communications Center Specialist traveling to Japan, serving as a Cryptographer. He was stationed below ground with technology for deciphering codes during the Vietnam War. He returned to Guadalupe, Ca. where he opened Guadalupe Radio and TV repair which became Barlogio's TV and Appliance beginning in Santa Maria, expanding to Arroyo Grande and Lompoc.
During the later years of his appliance business, he became a licensed California Realtor with Sunset Company Realtors following which he established Southwestern Realtors of Santa Maria, California. Following his career of sales, he began a new career with the pump and well drilling industry affiliated with Mid Coast Pump & Supply of Santa Maria during 1993 which was closed, then affiliated with The Pump House of Bakersfield and Santa Maria, which was acquired during 2003 by Preferred Pump & Equipment, LLC of FT. Worth, Texas, where he remained until May 2012.
John was a devoted husband, brother, father and grandfather. Until his health became a concern during the previous year he was
an active member of several organizations including the Santa Maria Elks Lodge 1538 for 38 years, The American Legion Post 371, Vaqueros de Los Ranchos for many years, and Atascadero Trail Riders since its beginning, Nipomo Mens Club and Nipomo Youth Recreation. John was actively involved with the youth of the Santa Maria Valley. He served with NYR (Nipomo Recreation) for 20 years continuously assisting to raise funding for the children of Nipomo. Following and during those activities he served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Elk's Recreation Foundation 1983-2000, 2003-2006 and as an assistant or chairman with the Santa Maria Elk's Rodeo annual queen contest for many years.
He was particularly fond of organized trail rides and hunting, but loved to travel in general, and visited many states and several countries. He enjoyed family gatherings and most recently enjoyed-golf. He maintained an ever present positive attitude with a good sense of humor. It might be told for years to follow: John was a self made man, he expected and asked for nothing from anyone, and more importantly he provided for others without exception.
John is survived by his wife Jean Claire Childers-Barlogio, his sisters: Ellen Barlogio-King of Houston, Texas, Elsene Barlogio- Warner of Montgomery, Alabama, five nieces and nephews, his children: daughter Teresa Johnette Bartogio-Deasee (Randy), John Joseph Barlogio, Jr. (Kim), Kristina Marie Barlogio-Hamer (Ed), six grandchildren and great-grand daughter and many cousins.
John's wife and family welcome you to the visitation at 4 pm and Scriptural Rosary, 5 pm, Thursday, September 27,2012 and Funeral Service and Mass, Friday, September 28,2012 at 1 pm, both services at St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church, East Clark/Harp Ave., Santa Maria, California and burial in the Santa Maria Cemetery with full Military honors and to the celebration of his life during the reception immediately following.
Arrangements are under the direction of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary, Crematory and Memory Gardens.
