Steve Sharpe, 67, of Grover Beach, was born in Redlands, Calif., in September 1943, and passed away Friday, Sept. 2, 2011. He lived in the South County for 52 years. He graduated from Arroyo Grande High School in 1961 and attended Allan Hancock College for two years. Steve was a retired Fire Captain, equipment operator for the California Department of Forestry and an estimator for Toste Construction. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, training bird dogs and barbecuing with family. Steve is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carol Sharpe of Grover Beach; children Timothy Sharpe (Jeri), Jeffrey Sharpe and Jennifer Sharpe, all of Grover Beach, and Traci Montgomery (Jason) of San Miguel; brothers Tom Sharpe (Marley) of Central Point, Ore., and Daniel Sharpe of California. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ashlee Sharpe of LaGrange, Ga., Brielle Sharpe of San Miguel, Baileigh Sharpe, T.J. Sharpe and Emily Sharpe, all of Grover Beach, and Brice Montgomery of San Miguel; and great-grandchildren Brantley Wood and Kynleigh Sharpe of LaGrange. He was preceded in death by his father, Kaplan Sharpe (Feb. 22, 1978) and mother, Betty Bishop (May 27, 2010). A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at the Arroyo Grande Cemetery. Flowers are welcome and memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society .
