Grover City Soldier Killed In Alaska
Grover City- Recitation of the Rosary for Sp/4 Reynaldo Ernest Evangelista, 22, of Grover City was held at 8 p.m. Sunday in the Wood Funeral Chapel.
Requiem Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. James Marron officiating.
Interment was in the Arroyo Grande district cemetery.
Sp/4 Evangelista was killed in an automobile accident Sept. 1 in Fairbanks, Alaska, while serving with the U.S. Army. A telegram from the army informed his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Evangelista of Grover City that their son had been killed in a vehicle accident. He was stationed with the ninth Infantry.
He was born in Santa Maria May 7, 1945, and entered the Army in July 1966. He grew up in Grover City and attended elementary school there. He was graduated from Arroyo Grande High School in 1964 and attended Hancock and Cuesta junior colleges.
Besides his parents, survivors include eight brothers, Freddy, Edward, Mario, Anthony, Dana and Conrad Evangelista, all of Grover City; Richard Evangelista of Santa Paula and Bobby Evangelista of Ventura; three sisters, Maureen, Karen and Rhonda Evangelista all of Grover City, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hamded Miller of Oceano.
