Larry Ramey, Sr. Larry D. Ramey, Sr., born in January, 1945 in Chickamauga, Georgia, passed away on March 7, 2015 in Arroyo Grande, California. The Ramey family migrated to the Central Coast in July 1961, where Larry graduated in 1963 from Arroyo Grande High School. After high school Larry went to work for a tree company clearing vegetation away from PG&E's transmission and distribution lines. Ten years later Larry went to work for Davey Tree, managing the Private Tree Care System for San Diego County. Larry would continue his career in tree trimming and horticulture on the Central Coast. Larry loved gardening, Civil War history, book collecting, cooking and feeding wild birds. He was a scoutmaster for three different Boy Scout Troops, was a member of the local Alano Club, and a member of the Los Grande Riders. He was also a member of a local 12 step group for over 33 years. Larry leaves behind seven children: Susan (Brian) Summers, Anne Ramey, Hope Ramey, Larry Ramey, Jr. (Debi), John Ramey, Joshua Coffey and Cole Ramey; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind brother, Alex Ramey; sister, Jenny Short and numerous nephews and one niece. Larry was preceded in death by his brother, Joe in 1970; brother, Roy in 2014; father, Emmett in 1977; and mother, Sue in 2001. At Larry's request a Celebration of Life is to take place on March 22, at 1:30pm at Biddle Park. BBQ provided and potluck requested. A private interment of his ashes will take place at his favorite grove of Redwoods.
