Irving L. Terra Jr.
Irving L. Terra Jr., 64, of Arroyo Grande died of natural causes Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012. Irv or "Shorty," as he was known to friends, graduated from Arroyo Grande High School in 1966. He later graduated from Cuesta College with a BA in business management. Irv served four years as Senior Airman in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam conflict with commendations; he was honorably discharged in 1973. He was co-owner of Forrest Interiors Flooring in Grover Beach. In 1998, he was a contractor for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He went on to become a building inspector with over 20 certifications and worked for the City of Paso Robles, until he retired in 2006. Irv played softball and football locally for a time and enjoyed bartending at various locations, including R&D''s, Bill O''Connor''s and even in Hawaii. He loved to fish lakes and rivers every chance he got. He also enjoyed bird and large game hunting and "real" camping. Irv is survived by his daughter, Tiffany Alcantara (Alex); granddaughter, Gloria; mom, Mary (Terra) Perry; sister, Kathy Oles (Chris); brothers Kenny Terra and Gene Terra (Joyce); nieces Michelle Oles and Della Bennett; and the many cousins of the Terras, Carvalhos and Silvas. He was preceded in death by his father, Irving E. Terra, Sr.; and beloved dog, George. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at the Arroyo Grande Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held immediately after at Bill''s Place, 112 E. Branch St. in Arroyo Grande. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to V.T.C. Enterprises.
