BROTHER'S LEGACY IS IN THE MAKING

The hardest part of Stephanie Afonso's Christmas this year will be opening the present from her younger brother, Greg Hoving.

Hoving bought and wrapped his sister's gift on Dec. 11. On Dec. 12, he died in a head-on dirt-bike crash near his home in Nipomo. Hoving was 17.

Like clockwork, he straddled his dirt bike every morning before school at Lopez High on the Nipomo Mesa, Afonso said.

The morning of Dec. 12 was no different. Hoving was riding with his buddy...

This was destroying to the entire family. His sister, Jill, is like family to me, and even after all these years she has a hard time talking about it. My heart goes out to the whole family.... I love you guys!

Greg was allways a great friend to me. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about him and his family.

Greg and I had the same pants in high school. they were made in Cambodia and everytime we seen eachother we always said "Cambodia" to eachother. He was so sweet and kind
