Earl passed away peacefully after a valiant fight against cancer.
Earl was born in Taft, Calif. He graduated from Arroyo Grande, Calif., High School in 1950. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1951 and served proudly until 1954. After discharge he attended Allen Hancock College in Santa Maria, Calif., graduating in 1955. At Hancock he met his loving wife Margaret Ann (Harper) and they were married after graduation on June 3, 1955. Earl and Margaret Ann lived and loved life, moving to Santa Paula in 1963 with three young sons; their fourth son was born in Santa Paula.
Earl was an outdoorsman and worked in the construction industry. He operated heavy earth moving equipment. He joined the Operating Engineers Union, Local 12, in 1957. He remained in the union, as a retiree, until he passed away. He worked for Granite Construction. He also worked for Ventura County as a road area supervisor. Earl loved camping with his family, outdoor sports and bowling. As his four sons grew he was active in Little League and youth football.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cora and Earl Sr.; brother, Charles; sister, Arlene Furtado.
Earl is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Ann; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Marian (Howald), Mark and Beth (Larkin), David and Theresa (Casas), Matt and Katie (Morehart); grandchildren, Rebeccah, Molly, Tyler, Kelsey, Kirsten, Madeline, Cameron and Emily; sisters, Marie Dallas and Toni Prescott; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday, March 9, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, 604 Ojai Rd., Santa Paula. A memorial service will immediately follow at 12:30 p.m. with burial at 2 p.m. at the Santa Paula Cemetery.
