Dave McLain, 58, died after a nine-month battle with kidney cancer on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at a skilled nursing facility in El Cajon, CA. He had suffered with kidney problems throughout his life.
Born in November 1950, McLain was a 1968 graduate of San Luis Obispo High School and earned an associate of arts degree in business at Cuesta College.
McLain worked in the newspaper and print production industries for more than 35 years, starting at the Tribune where he became a press room foreman. He also worked in Redmond, WA; San Jose, CA; Auburn, CA; Martha's Vineyard, MA; and Victoria, TX, managing and handling sales for a variety of printing and newspaper businesses.
He had been with San Diego Web Offset Printing in El Cajon since 2004 and was named its general manager in 2005. The company prints more than 150 community newspapers and other publications distributed mostly in the San Diego area.
McLain is survived by his son, Ryan of San Francisco; sister, Mary Van Aalsburg of Fresno; and brothers, Chris of Orinda, CA, and Jim of San Diego.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James L. and Marjorie Patricia McLain of San Luis Obispo.
McLain's wish was that no funeral services be held.

Dave and I were friends starting in1966. Those were good days in SLO and Avila. Life goes on and you loose touch. Sad for his passing.
