Cathryn Ann (Flynn) Smith, 53, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, in San Francisco, Calif. She was born in September 1958 in Palo Alto, Calif., the daughter of John and Barbara Ann (Russell) Flynn. Cathy grew up in San Luis Obispo and graduated from San Luis Obispo High School in 1976. After attending UCLA and Cal Poly, she moved to the Bay Area, where she worked as an executive secretary for Macy's, and later, Hilton. Cathy met William Saunders. They married in 1981, and had one son, Brandon. Cathy returned to San Luis Obispo in 1985 and worked for the Telegram-Tribune for several years. She met Scott Smith. They married in 1994, and had one son, Morgan. She was an energetic, artistic, witty and brilliant person, who will be dearly missed. Cathy is survived by her sons Brandon Saunders and Morgan Smith of Augusta, Ga.; granddaughter, Bryanna Saunders of Atascadero; father, John Flynn of San Luis Obispo; and brother, David Flynn of Santa Margarita. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at the Old Mission Cemetery in San Luis Obispo.
